Andorra IBAN Format (AD) — Structure, Length & Example
Andorran IBANs are 24 characters with a 4-digit bank code and 4-digit branch code. Andorra is a SEPA member since 2019. Learn the AD IBAN structure with Crèdit Andorrà and MoraBanc examples.
The Andorra IBAN is 24 characters long and follows the ISO 13616 standard. Andorra adopted the IBAN system alongside the euro, and joined the SEPA payment area in 2019, making it the most recently admitted non-EU SEPA participant. Andorran banks process euro payments through the SEPA Credit Transfer and SEPA Direct Debit schemes alongside Eurozone institutions.

Andorra IBAN Structure Explained
1. Country Code — AD (2 characters)
The ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code for the Principality of Andorra. Every Andorran IBAN starts with AD.
2. Check Digits — kk (2 digits)
Two decimal digits computed using the MOD-97 algorithm defined in ISO 7064. They verify that the IBAN was not corrupted during transcription and catch common digit transpositions.
3. Bank Code — bbbb (4 digits)
A 4-digit numeric code that identifies the Andorran banking institution. Major banks and their codes include:
0001— Crèdit Andorrà (CreAnd)0002— BancSabadell d'Andorra0003— Banc Internacional d'Andorra (BINCA)0004— MoraBanc0006— Andorra Banc Agrícol Reig (ANDBANC)
4. Branch Code — ssss (4 digits)
A 4-digit code identifying the specific branch within the bank. In modern Andorran banking, this field is often set to 0000 or a default branch value.
5. Account Number — cccccccccccc (12 digits)
A 12-digit numeric account number. The Andorran account field is purely numeric — no alphabetic characters appear in the BBAN.

How Andorran IBAN Validation Works
- Country code check: The first two characters must be
AD. - Length check: The IBAN must be exactly 24 characters after removing spaces.
- Character type check: Positions 5–24 (the BBAN) must all be decimal digits — no letters.
- MOD-97 check: Move the first four characters to the end, replace each letter with its numeric value (A=10 … Z=35), then divide by 97. A valid IBAN yields a remainder of 1.
Andorra Is a SEPA Country
Andorra joined SEPA in 2019 under an agreement with the European Central Bank. This means:
- Euro transfers to Andorran accounts can be sent as SEPA Credit Transfers — typically processed within one business day.
- SEPA Direct Debit mandates are supported for recurring euro payments.
- No additional BIC code is required for SEPA transfers — the IBAN alone is sufficient in most cases, although some banks still request it for cross-border clarity.
- Andorra is not an EU member and uses the euro under a monetary agreement, not as an EU member state.

Notable Andorran Banks
Andorra's banking sector is concentrated in a small number of institutions, all headquartered in Andorra la Vella:
- Crèdit Andorrà (CreAnd) — The largest Andorran bank by assets, offering retail, private, and corporate banking.
- MoraBanc — A privately owned full-service bank focusing on private wealth management and retail banking.
- Andorra Banc Agrícol Reig (ANDBANC) — A mid-size institution with a strong private banking arm and international wealth management clients.
- Banc Internacional d'Andorra (BINCA) — Owned by Banca March (Spain), providing commercial and private banking services.
- BancSabadell d'Andorra — The Andorran subsidiary of Spain's Banco Sabadell.
Common Andorran IBAN Mistakes
Confusing AD with AT (Austria)
The country codes AD (Andorra) and AT (Austria) differ by one letter. Andorran IBANs are 24 characters; Austrian IBANs are 20 characters. Always verify the country code before submitting a payment instruction.
Wrong Length — 20 or 27 Characters
A 20-character string likely belongs to an Austrian IBAN; a 27-character string is French or Monégasque. Andorran IBANs are always exactly 24 characters.
Letters in the BBAN
Unlike some countries where the BBAN contains alphabetic characters, the Andorran BBAN is entirely numeric. If any letter appears after the country code and check digits, the IBAN is malformed.
